About the job Trading Specialist

1.Power Plant Dispatch Monitoring. Monitor the dispatch of power plants to ensure compliance with operational schedules, system operator instructions, and regulatory requirements. Promptly flag and help address any deviations or issues affecting plant performance or market obligations.

2. Market Offer Preparation and Submission. Prepare and submit electricity market offers based on market demand, price signals, operational capacity, and contractual obligations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy in submissions to the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

3. Bilateral Contract Management Coordinate and manage bilateral contract quantities (BCQ) with customers to ensure alignment with agreed terms. Prepare and submit BCQ declarations to the market operator accurately and on time.

4. Stakeholder Coordination Collaborate with plant operators, system operators, and market operators to support daily trading activities, resolve operational concerns, and maintain compliance with WESM rules and protocols.

5. Trading Data Management. Maintain and update trading databases with real-time and historical market data, transaction records, and contract details to ensure accuracy, traceability, and support for internal analysis and reporting.

6. Reporting. Generate and submit daily, weekly, and compliance reports summarizing trading activities, market trends, price behaviour, and contractual performance.

7. Market Rule Compliance. Ensure strict adherence to WESM rules and trading guidelines, including accurate execution of transactions and complete documentation of all commercial operations.

8. Market Simulation and Forecasting. Support Assist in electricity price simulation and forecasting using available tools and methodologies. Provide inputs to the trading team for developing strategies and optimizing market participation.

9. Process Improvement and Support Tasks. Identify areas for process improvement within trading operations and assist in implementing new workflows or tools. Perform other commercial operations-related tasks as assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or Information Technology.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in the electric power industry, preferably with working knowledge of the WESM.
  • Strong understanding of electricity markets, including pricing mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and participant behaviour.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel or similar tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of SQL for data extraction and analysis is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with VBA, Python, or C# for automation and advanced spreadsheet functionality is a plus.
