GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's Degree: Earn a bachelor's degree in a field like psychology, education, or a related social science.

· Master's Degree: Obtain a master's degree in school counseling, guidance and counseling, or a similar field.

· Registered Guidance Counselor

Key Responsibilities

· Student Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling to students on social, personal, and emotional challenges, as well as academic issues.

· Academic Guidance: Advise students on course selection, academic goals, and developing effective study habits.

· Career Development: Assist students in exploring interests and abilities, planning academic and vocational paths, and applying for scholarships, colleges, or jobs.

· Assessment: Evaluate students' aptitudes, interests, and skills through assessments and interviews to help them develop realistic goals.

· Collaboration: Work with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student development and improve the overall learning environment.

· Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for students' well-being, ensuring their needs are met and they have access to appropriate resources.

· Intervention & Referrals: Identify at-risk students and social or behavioral issues, and refer them to psychologists or mental health resources when needed.

· Program Development: Organize events, programs, and lessons on topics such as bullying prevention, drug abuse, and social responsibility.

· Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.

· Organizational and record-keeping skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
