Position Overview

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is responsible for leading the daily operations, strategic direction, and overall performance of the Operations and Logistics functions. The role ensures operational efficiency, safety, and seamless coordination across logistics processes, including vessel scheduling and cargo movement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Direct and supervise all operational activities, including vessel management, scheduling, cargo logistics, port operations, and fleet deployment. Drive continuous improvement and align operations with business objectives.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to design and execute long-term operational strategies, optimize maritime routes, and adapt to market and technological shifts. Lead projects to expand market presence and improve logistics networks.
  • Fleet and Vessel Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance of vessels, ensuring safety, compliance, and schedule adherence. Minimize downtime and address operational disruptions effectively.
  • Port and Terminal Operations: Manage port calls, berth allocation, loading/unloading, and coordination with port authorities. Implement process improvements to minimize cargo dwell times and enhance throughput.
  • End-to-End Logistics Oversight: Streamline supply chain processes, strengthen partnerships with logistics providers, and ensure timely and reliable cargo delivery.
  • Process Optimization: Leverage technology and innovative solutions for tracking, inventory management, and logistics integration with clients and partners.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with international maritime laws and safety standards. Foster a safety-first culture and lead incident investigations with corrective measures.
  • Client and Partner Relations: Maintain strong communication with clients, industry partners, and government agencies to uphold service excellence in speed, reliability, and accuracy.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage budgets, implement cost-reduction initiatives, and analyze performance metrics to drive profitability.
  • People Leadership: Lead and mentor a diverse team of managers, operators, and coordinators, fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to maritime operations, supply chain disruptions, and external factors. Develop contingency and continuity plans.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates on performance metrics, strategic initiatives, safety, compliance, and risk management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in shipping, maritime logistics, or supply chain management, with 5+ years in a senior leadership/executive role.
  • Strong technical expertise in vessel operations, shipping regulations, port logistics, and supply chain optimization.
  • Proven experience in leading multinational operations and diverse teams.
  • Track record of driving innovation and operational improvements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong customer orientation with a commitment to high service standards.
