Job Description

A 4th Engineer on a ship is a junior officer in the engine department, primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of various machinery and systems, including purifiers, air compressors, and water systems. They also assist senior engineers with bunkering operations, fuel and lube oil management, and participate in both preventative and breakdown maintenance. The 4th Engineer's role includes watchkeeping duties, record keeping, and ensuring the safe operation of equipment.
