We are seeking an experienced and driven Lead Engineer to oversee with background in design and engineering, with additional responsibility for monitoring and evaluating quantity surveying and costing activities. This role combines technical leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring that engineering solutions are not only high-quality but also cost-effective and aligned with budget expectations.

The ideal candidate will lead by example, motivating the team to perform at their best while ensuring technical, design, and financial objectives are consistently met. You will work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Cost Engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate budgeting, cost control, and resource planning across all engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team & Technical Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary engineering and design team.

Motivation & Performance Management: Encourage and inspire the engineering team to take ownership and continuously improve. Set clear goals and KPIs, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching. Foster a positive and accountable team environment.

Quantity Surveying & Cost Evaluation: Collaborate with the Quantity Surveying team to monitor and control project costs. Review cost estimates, BOQs (Bill of Quantities), tender documents, and procurement plans. Ensure accuracy in material take-offs and cost reporting. Support value engineering efforts to optimize design and cost without compromising quality. Track budget vs. actual costs and report variances with solutions for cost optimization. Participate in contractor and supplier evaluations from a cost and quality perspective.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously improve design and engineering workflows.
  • Implement and enforce engineering standards and best practices.
  • Promote innovative design and cost-saving measures.
  • Drive a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Oversee the complete engineering process from concept to completion.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

  • Proven experience in engineering design and project delivery (mechanical, civil, electrical, architecture or relevant field).
  • Strong understanding of quantity surveying principles, cost estimation, and cost control techniques.
  • Familiarity with BOQ preparation, pricing, tendering, and contract administration.
  • Proficiency in engineering and costing software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, CostX, Primavera, etc.).

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance technical, financial, and managerial responsibilities.
  • High emotional intelligence with a proactive and collaborative mindset.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architecture or related).
  • Experience in construction industry is a plus
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2–4 years in a team leadership role.
  • Experience working with Quantity Surveying teams or in a role with cost monitoring responsibility.
