JOB SUMMARY:

The Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) is responsible for ensuring the protection of marine fauna during dredging, sand extraction, and offshore construction activities by monitoring marine mammals, recording accurate environmental data, and enforcing mitigation measures such as soft-starts and shutdown procedures. The role involves close coordination with vessel crews and project management to maintain full compliance with environmental regulations, as well as the preparation and submission of required monitoring and compliance reports. Strong observational skills, offshore readiness, and a solid understanding of marine environmental practices are essential for success in this position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor marine mammals during dredging, sand extraction, and offshore construction activities.
  • Implement mitigation measures (soft-starts, shutdowns) to prevent disturbance or harm.
  • Record sightings, behaviors, and environmental conditions accurately.
  • Prepare and submit compliance reports to project environmental officers.
  • Coordinate with vessel crew and project management to ensure regulatory compliance.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • MMO training certificate (or willingness to undergo training).
  • Basic Safety Training (BST/STCW) and valid medical clearance for offshore work.
  • Experience in marine fauna monitoring or offshore projects preferred.
  • Strong observational, reporting, and communication skills.
  • The applicant will report to the Pasay City office but must be willing to work at any project site as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Php45, Php55,000.00 per month
