Job Summary:

The Associate General Counsel will provide strategic legal advice and representation on disputes, litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters affecting the company's power and energy projects. This role ensures that the company's interests are protected while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, industry regulations, and contractual obligations. The position will collaborate with internal stakeholders, external counsel, and regulatory bodies to mitigate legal risks and support the company's business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise management and business units on legal risks, rights, and obligations in relation to disputes, litigation, and regulatory matters.
  • Handle and oversee disputes, claims, and proceedings (litigation, arbitration, mediation) involving the company, ensuring alignment with business strategy.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, settlement agreements, and other legal documents related to disputes and resolutions.
  • Represent the company in dealings with courts, quasi-judicial bodies, regulators, and other relevant government agencies.
  • Manage external counsel, ensuring cost-efficient and effective resolution of legal cases.
  • Provide legal support on compliance, permitting, licensing, and regulatory issues in the energy and power sector.
  • Collaborate with project and commercial teams to identify and mitigate potential legal and contractual risks in ongoing and new projects.
  • Maintain and update legal records, case files, and dispute status reports for internal tracking and governance.
  • Assist the General Counsel in developing and implementing legal policies, procedures, and dispute resolution frameworks.
  • Conduct training and awareness sessions for employees on dispute management, compliance, and contract enforcement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB/JD); must be a licensed attorney in good standing.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in litigation, arbitration, or dispute resolution, preferably in the power, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, regulatory, and energy laws.
  • Proven experience in managing high-value disputes, complex contracts, and negotiations.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases/projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing external counsel.
