Job Summary:

The Legal Counsel for Regulatory will be responsible for providing legal support and guidance on regulatory compliance, permitting, licensing, and government relations in connection with the company's power and energy operations. The role ensures that the business adheres to all applicable laws, industry standards, and regulatory requirements while safeguarding the company's interests and enabling sustainable project development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on regulatory matters impacting the power and energy sector, including licensing, compliance, and environmental regulations.
  • Review and interpret laws, rules, and regulations issued by government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
  • Support project teams in securing permits, approvals, and regulatory clearances for new and existing energy projects.
  • Prepare, review, and submit regulatory filings, reports, and documentation to relevant government authorities.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, government bodies, and industry associations to represent the company's interests.
  • Monitor legislative and policy developments, assess their impact on company operations, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Provide legal input in negotiations and agreements with regulatory implications, including power supply agreements, interconnection contracts, and compliance undertakings.
  • Ensure timely resolution of regulatory issues, disputes, or non-compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with compliance, government affairs, and business units to implement internal policies aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regulatory training and awareness sessions for management and employees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB/JD); licensed attorney in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of legal experience, with strong background in regulatory compliance, preferably in the power, energy, or infrastructure sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy laws, industry regulations, and government permitting processes.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills for dealing with regulators and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and provide practical business solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and regulatory offices as needed.
