Quick Rundown:
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee the company's accounting functions and lead the accounts team. The ideal candidate will ensure the accuracy and efficiency of day-to-day accounting activities, including managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. This role involves both strategic oversight and hands-on involvement in financial operations, with a focus on VAT, CIS, and year-end tasks
What You'll Do:
Manage Daily Accounting Operations: Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and posting journal entries to ensure accurate financial records.
VAT Returns: Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations and Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
CIS Compliance: Oversee the submission of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns and manage the process of issuing CIS vouchers to subcontractors.
Month-End and Year-End Procedures: Manage month-end and year-end accounting tasks, including preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of year-end accounts.
Cash Flow Management: Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts to ensure the company has the necessary liquidity for day-to-day operations and planned expenditures.
Prepare Financial Reports: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Head of Finance, providing insights into the companys financial performance.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Internal Controls and Financial Procedures: Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls to ensure operational efficiency and mitigate financial risk.
Team Management: Lead and support the accounts team, providing guidance and training to ensure accurate and efficient work while maintaining a high level of professional standards.
Checking and processing Energy Company RFIs and invoicing, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
Expense and Retention Tracking: Review and validate employee expense sheets, track retention payments on contracts, and ensure compliance with company policies.
Ad-Hoc Financial Tasks: Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and any other financial tasks as required by management.
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in an Accounts Manager role, with experience in managing day-to-day accounting functions and leading a team.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, VAT, CIS, payroll, and financial reporting in the UK.
Hold a qualification in accounting or finance.
Experience with the accounting software QuickBooks
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, with advanced skills in financial analysis and reporting.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in financial reporting and data management.
Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop an accounting team.
Excellent communication skills, able to liaise effectively with senior management, external auditors, and financial partners.
