Job Description

  1. Cost Estimation and Budget Development

  2. Prepare detailed cost estimates during the planning and design phases.

  3. Develop project budgets based on design drawings, specifications, and market rates.

  4. Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness.

  5. Cost Monitoring and Control

  6. Track and monitor actual project costs against the approved budget.

  7. Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.

  8. Assist in the development of cost control systems and procedures.

  9. Forecasting and Financial Reporting

  10. Provide regular cost forecasts, cash flow analysis, and financial reports.

  11. Update cost-to-complete and earned value metrics.

  12. Report any budget overruns or risks to project management.

  13. Change Management

  14. Evaluate the cost impact of design changes, scope modifications, and site instructions.

  15. Prepare cost impact assessments and update budgets accordingly.

  16. Maintain a change order log and ensure proper documentation.

  17. Collaboration and Documentation

  18. Coordinate with quantity surveyors, planners, procurement, and site engineers.

  19. Maintain comprehensive cost records, logs, and audit trails.
  20. Support tendering and contract evaluation processes when needed.

Key Skills and Tools

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in cost management software (e.g., CostX, Candy, Primavera, Excel).
  • Understanding of construction contracts (FIDIC, NEC, etc.).
  • Attention to detail and excellent reporting capabilities.

Other Responsibilities;

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects based on drawings, specifications, and scope of work.
  • Analyze labor, material, and time costs to determine the total project cost.
  • Develop and manage project budgets.
  • Monitor project spending to ensure it stays within the allocated budget.
  • Provide forecasts of future project costs and financial needs.
  • Implement cost control procedures to monitor project expenditures.
  • Track and report on cost variances, providing explanations for differences between the budget and actual costs.
  • Recommend cost-saving initiatives and corrective actions if cost overruns are detected.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between project scope and budget.
  • Prepare financial models and simulations to predict potential cost implications of project changes.
  • Identify potential financial risks in projects and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Evaluate the cost impacts of changes in project scope or schedule and provide recommendations on how to proceed.
  • Assist with the procurement of materials and services by providing cost estimates for vendor negotiations.
  • Review vendor quotes and contracts to ensure that costs align with the project budget.

Qualifications;

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Civil Engineer.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating software.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to details and ability to work with complex data.
