Job Brief

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in Hazardous Areas. This role involves ensuring safe and compliant electrical designs, installations, and inspections in high-risk environments such as chemical plants, oil & gas, and manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate will have current EEHA certification and demonstrated understanding of AS/NZS and IEC standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, review, and implement electrical systems in hazardous areas in accordance with AS/NZS 4761 and IEC standards

  • Conduct inspections, audits, and compliance checks on hazardous area equipment and installations

  • Prepare and review technical documentation, risk assessments, and compliance reports

  • Collaborate with engineering, HSE, and operations teams to ensure ongoing safety and compliance

  • Provide expert advice on hazardous area classification and installation design

  • Ensure proper maintenance and lifecycle management of electrical equipment in hazardous zones

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer working specifically in Hazardous Areas

  • Current EEHA (Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas) certification

  • Demonstrated competencies under AS/NZS 4761

  • Knowledge and practical experience with IEC standards relating to hazardous areas

  • Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations and compliance frameworks

  • Excellent attention to detail and technical problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Site-based experience in mining, energy, or heavy industrial environments

  • RPEQ or equivalent professional registration (if applicable)

  • Experience with hazardous area software tools (e.g., Ex Register, hazardous area classification tools)

Software Proficiency:

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Engineering documentation and drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, EPlan)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Personal Attributes:

  • Safety-conscious and compliance-driven

  • Clear communicator with strong documentation skills

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to make sound engineering judgments
