Tax Officer

The Tax Officer reviews the work of the Tax Associate, ensures accuracy of findings, and initiates the preparation of formal reports and recommendations. The TO bridges operational compliance checking with higher-level review by management.
Key Responsibilities
- Review monitoring files, checklists, and working papers prepared by the Tax Associate.
- Draft internal audit reports on tax mapping, post-filing reviews, and document sampling.
- Assess completeness, timeliness, and accuracy of tax filings and mandatory submissions.
- Compare tax returns and submissions with trial balances, ledgers, contracts, and accounting records.
- Recommend whether amendments to returns or submissions are necessary.
- Coordinate with accounting and other teams for reconciliation of findings within set timelines.
- Ensure compliance with reporting deadlines (weekly, monthly, quarterly).
Deliverables
- Draft reports with findings, risk ratings, and recommendations.
- Consolidated compliance ratings and short memos for Tax Senior Manager review.
- Documentation of reconciliations and follow-ups with business units.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Preferably a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or with equivalent tax/audit certifications.
Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of tax experience required.
- Background in tax review, internal audit, or quality assurance processes is an advantage.
- Experience with tax returns, compliance checks, and risk assessments preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of tax laws, BIR regulations, and compliance procedures.
- Skilled in audit methodologies, process evaluation, and internal control assessment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, data analysis tools, and tax-related software (e.g., eBIRForms).
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems required.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality and integrity.
