Roaster

JOB SUMMARY

He/She is responsible for operating coffee roasting machines and assisting with various roasting activities, including but not limited to Green Coffee Bean (GCB) Preparation, Coffee Blending, and Defect Sorting. This role also involves participation in Quality Control & Assessment of roasted coffee to ensure consistency and excellence.

He/She must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) within the roastery and GCB warehouse, ensuring the proper utilization of gas supply and roasting equipment. Any machine or equipment errors and issues must be promptly reported to the Head Roaster.

As part of the Roastery team, He/She will be responsible for maintaining the machinery and equipment in the Roasting Department, including but not limited to Roast Machines, Vacuum Loaders, Destoners, and Color/Gravity Sorters. They ensure that all equipment operates efficiently, runs smoothly, and meets performance capacity requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Completes all roasting-related forms for each produced batch and submits them to the Head Roaster for review and approval upon completion.
• Follows safety guidelines and ensuring all equipment remains in optimal working condition.
• Conducts daily inspection and maintenance of machinery and equipment before and after coffee production to ensure optimal performance.
• Actively participates in Preventive Maintenance Activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
• Detects and troubleshoots machinery issues.
• Reads and interprets technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to support troubleshooting and repairs.
• Immediately communicates and coordinates with the immediate supervisor and department head regarding any issues or problems arising on the production lines.
• Takes accountability for all equipment and machine parts assigned to the Roastery Area.
• Manages inventory of tools and spare parts, ensuring accurate tracking and availability.
• Ensures that all machines are regularly maintained, properly operated, and comply with established procedures to maintain efficiency and safety.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
• Certification in coffee roasting or related field (e.g., Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) certification) is preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in coffee roasting or a related production role.
• Previous experience working with roasting equipment is preferred.
• Knowledge of roasting equipment and processes, including the ability to adjust and optimize roast profiles.
• Familiarity with quality control standards in coffee production.
• Experience with record-keeping and tracking roasting parameters and production data.

SKILLS

• Hands-on experience in coffee roasting, often gained through internships or working as an apprentice.
• In-depth understanding of coffee beans, their origins, and the roasting process.
• Precision in monitoring and controlling roasting parameters to achieve consistent results.
• Ability to conduct cupping sessions and evaluate the quality of coffee based on taste, aroma, and appearance.
• Familiarity with the language of coffee tasting and understanding of roast profiles.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to roasting equipment or product quality in a timely manner.
• Basic understanding of roasting equipment mechanics and troubleshooting skills.
