Job Description – Quantity Surveyor (Mechanical)
Position Title: Quantity Surveyor – Mechanical
Department: Cost Control
Reports To: Engineering Head
Job Summary:
The Quantity Surveyor (Mechanical) is responsible for managing all cost and contractual aspects related to mechanical works (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping, and other mechanical systems) throughout the project lifecycle. The role involves cost estimation, tendering, contract administration, and monitoring project budgets to ensure cost efficiency and compliance with specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and bills of quantities (BOQ) for mechanical works.
- Analyze mechanical drawings, specifications, and contract documents for accurate costing.
- Evaluate and prepare tender documents, proposals, and bid submissions for mechanical packages.
- Monitor project budgets, track costs, and prepare financial reports.
- Assess and certify subcontractor/supplier payments and variations.
- Conduct cost analysis and value engineering for mechanical systems.
- Support procurement in reviewing quotations and negotiating with suppliers/subcontractors.
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with project specifications, standards, and contractual requirements.
- Assist in resolving contractual and commercial issues related to mechanical works.
- Prepare progress reports and provide accurate cost forecasts to management.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other QS disciplines for overall project control.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in quantity surveying, preferably in MEP/Mechanical works.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping, etc.).
- Familiarity with relevant standards, codes, and contractual practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and QS-related software (e.g., CostX, PlanSwift, or similar).
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
