JOB SUMMARY:

The Database Engineer is responsible for the administration, monitoring, tuning, and maintenance of PSSLAI's mission-critical databases. This role ensures database performance, availability, data integrity, and security, while supporting business operations and development teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor database health, performance metrics, and storage utilization.
  • Perform routine database optimizations, backups, restorations, and DR testing.
  • Implement changes to schema structures and optimize queries for performance.
  • Troubleshoot databases issues and conduct regular maintenance.
  • Respond to alerts, resolve incidents, and perform root cause analysis.
  • Maintain database documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with application teams and vendors for issue remediation and enhancements.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as reorgs, runstats, and job scheduling.
  • Support database security, patching, and compliance monitoring.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong understanding of database systems (DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB).
  • Skilled in writing SQL scripts and performing performance tuning.
  • Knowledgeable in encryption of different databases.
  • Experience with backup/recovery tools and high availability configurations (HADR).
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting tools, and job scheduling platforms.
  • Good problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in database administration roles.
  • Certifications in DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or MongoDB administration preferred.
