The Reliever School Nurse provides temporary healthcare services to students and staff during the absence of the regular school nurse. The nurse ensures the health and safety of students by managing minor injuries and illnesses, administering medications, maintaining health records, and supporting health education initiatives. This position requires flexibility, clinical competence, and the ability to quickly adapt to new school environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with school policy.
  • Maintain accurate health records, including immunizations and health histories.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns.
  • Collaborate with school staff to manage students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes).
  • Monitor for signs of communicable diseases and take appropriate action.
  • Promote a healthy school environment through education and health awareness.
  • Follow and enforce school health policies, confidentiality rules, and legal requirements.
  • Document all care provided during shift for continuity.
  • Ensure the health office is stocked, clean, and organized.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly.
  • Must be available in short notice.
