We are looking for an experienced Web Technologies Consultant with at least 5 years of hands-on and advisory experience across web hosting, digital platforms, and enterprise web operations. This role is not about coding or deep infrastructure, but about ensuring our websites and digital platforms are secure, scalable, and aligned with both business objectives and industry best practices. The consultant will act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders and technical teams, providing expertise in web operations, security, and hosting.

Key responsibilities

  • Web Hosting & Infrastructure Advisory: Guide on enterprise web hosting models (cloud, hybrid, or dedicated) and ensure platforms are optimised for performance, scalability, and resilience.
  • CDN/WAF Oversight: Support the setup, monitoring, and tuning of CDN/WAF solutions such as Akamai, Cloudflare, or Azure Front Door to balance performance and security.
  • Technical Liaison: Work closely with internal teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and ensure successful implementation.
  • Operations & Governance: Oversee day-to-day operational processes including SSL certificate lifecycle management, patching, deployments, and monitoring site availability.
  • Compliance & Security: Support adherence to security best practices, data protection standards (e.g., GDPR), and internal governance frameworks.
  • Platform Oversight: Provide guidance on CMS and digital platform use (e.g., WordPress, Sitecore, Adobe, headless CMS) and ensure they integrate effectively into the wider environment.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical runbooks, process documentation, and architectural reference materials.
  • Strategic Advice: Stay up-to-date with emerging trends in web technologies, digital security, and content delivery, and provide recommendations on adoption.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience: At least 5 years in digital/web technology roles, with strong exposure to hosting, CDNs, and enterprise web platforms.
  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of DNS, SSL, CDN, WAF, website monitoring, and enterprise hosting models.
  • Digital Platform Awareness: Familiarity with major CMS platforms (WordPress, Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager) and their operational requirements.
  • Business Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues in business-friendly language.
  • Problem Solving: Track record of resolving performance, availability, or security issues in web environments.
  • Documentation & Governance: Experience producing technical documentation and contributing to governance frameworks.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with cloud-native hosting environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Awareness of DevOps/CI-CD pipelines for website deployments.
  • Knowledge of application security principles and coordinating security testing.
  • Familiarity with web performance optimisation and analytics (e.g., Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse, GTMetrix).
