Junior Database Engineer

The Junior Database Engineer / Administrator will support the design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the organization's database systems. The role involves working with Relational (RDBMS), Object-Relational (ORDBMS), Object-Oriented (OODBMS), and NoSQL databases, ensuring performance, security, and availability. The candidate must also be familiar with operating systems (Linux, Unix, Windows), network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S), and reporting/automation tools to support both technical and business needs. This position is ideal for candidates eager to build a strong foundation in multi-model database administration, reporting, networking, OS, and cloud platforms within a regulated fintech environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Database Operations & Administration

2. Assist in installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades of RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle).

3. Support ORDBMS features such as handling JSON, arrays, and user-defined data types.
4. Learn to administer NoSQL platforms (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra) for unstructured and big data workloads.
5. Gain exposure to OODBMS concepts for object-oriented storage models.

6. Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries.

7. Networking & Connectivity

8. Understand how TCP/IP, DNS, and common ports/protocols are used in database communications.

9. Assist in configuring secure connections (SSL/TLS) for databases.
10. Troubleshoot connectivity issues between application servers and databases.Support replication,  clustering, and failover setups across networked environments.

11. Operating System Administration

12. Work with Linux, Unix, and Wi3. ndows servers to support database deployments.

13. Perform basic system administration tasks (user management, file system management, service monitoring).
14. Understand how databases interact with OS resources (CPU, memory, storage, I/O).

15. Assist in applying patches, updates, and configurations at the OS level to support stable database operations.

16. Data Security & Compliance

17. Support database backup, restore, and disaster recovery activities.

18. Follow security best practices aligned with Regulatory Compliances and Data Privacy Act.

19. Assist in role-based access control, OS-level hardening, firewall rules, and audit logging for databases.

20. Development & Engineering Support

21. Work with developers to optimize schema design, queries, and stored procedures.

22. Support database migrations, upgrades, and data transformation

23. Participate in proof-of-concept setups for hybrid database solutions.

24. Documentation & Monitoring

25. Maintain up-to-date documentation of database configurations, OSdependencies, policies, and  procedures.

26. Assist in setting up monitoring dashboards and alerting systems.

27. Track database and system resource usage, providing reports for capacity planning.

28. Reporting & Automation

29. Create, schedule, and maintain reports using database reporting tools (e.g., SQL

30. Server Reporting Services, Oracle BI, PostgreSQL reporting extensions, JasperReports).
31. Use automation tools/scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash, cron jobs) to streamline reporting and database maintenance tasks.
32. Work with stakeholders to generate operational, compliance, and business reports (e.g., system performance, transaction summaries, audit logs). Assist in building automated dashboards for

33. proactive monitoring and decision-making.

34. Development & Engineering Support

35. Work with developers to optimize schema design, queries, and stored procedures

36. Support database migrations, upgrades, and data transformation.
37. Participate in proof-of-concept setups for hybrid database solutions.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 2 Years experience working in relevant field (Network, System Administration, Database,
• Cloud Administrator) must have at least experience in the related domains.
• Basic knowledge of SQL (queries, joins, indexing).
• Familiarity with at least one RDBMS (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals (ports, sockets, DNS resolution,
• client-server communication).
• Familiarity with Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems for database
• deployments.
• Awareness of data structures, normalization, and transactions.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and eagerness to learn.
• Preferred / Nice to Have:
• Exposure to cloud databases on Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Knowledge of scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) for automation.
• Understanding of data security concepts (encryption, access control, VPNs, firewalls).
• Familiarity with database monitoring tools.
