About the Role:

We are looking for an SMSF Audit Assistant to join our client's team. their company already has a lead Registered SMSF Auditor; we are seeking a capable professional to assist the staff by managing the audit workflow, preparing workpapers, and ensuring all compliance checks are completed to a high standard.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the technical detail of SMSF auditing and wants to work in a stable, supportive environment without the pressure of being the final signatory.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Audit Support: Assist the Lead Auditor in the end-to-end audit process for a diverse SMSF portfolio.
  • Workpaper Preparation: Build and maintain high-quality electronic audit workpapers.
  • Compliance Testing: Perform substantive testing on contributions, pension payments, and investment valuations to ensure SISA/SISR compliance.
  • Queries: Communicate with the accounting team to gather missing documentation and resolve audit queries.
  • Drafting: Prepare draft audit reports and management letters for the lead auditor's final review and sign-off.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Experience: 2+ years in SMSF auditing or SMSF-specific accounting/administration.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of SMSF regulations and audit standards.
  • Qualifications: Degree in Accounting or a related field. CPA/CA is preferred but not essential.
  • Registration: You do not need to be an ASIC Registered SMSF Auditor for this role.
  • Skills: High attention to detail and proficiency in SMSF software (e.g., Class, BGL, or Cloudoffis).
