Job Overview:

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Senior Editor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in creative nonfiction, with particular expertise in essay writing and prompt-based narrative work. 

In this role, the Senior Editor will serve as a highly experienced editor within the College Division, reviewing and refining essays from junior editors to ensure all student submissions are polished, compelling, and meet quality standards. This position combines hands-on editing, working closely with consultants, and providing mentorship and guidance to junior editors. Commitment during the college season (August–December) is expected.

Responsibilities:

• Editing
  • The Senior Editor will become an essential component of the College Division. The Senior Editor will work closely with the College Admissions Team's Consultants to assist with brainstorming, outlining, condensing, and proofreading student essays. The Senior Editor will also be responsible for creating marketing and advertising materials
• Management
  • The Senior Editor will be responsible for overseeing junior editors within the editing team. This includes providing mentorship, training, and guidance to ensure consistent quality of work. The Senior Editor will also aid in recruitment by evaluating and interviewing applicants for the college division.
• Project Management
  • The Senior Editor will be responsible for monitoring and managing the progress of essays across the editing team to ensure a timely and efficient workflow. This includes establishing, communicating, and enforcing clear turnaround times for submitting drafts to main consultants for review and for returning edited versions to clients. The Senior Editor will be expected to utilize project management software or other appropriate tools to track assignments, monitor deadlines, and coordinate the team's work. The Senior Editor will also be responsible for maintaining quality standards across all deliverables, identifying potential issues early, working to streamline, standardize, and improve internal processes to enhance overall efficiency, and collaborating with other divisions to ensure progress and alignment across the organization.

Qualifications:

Eligibility

• Exceptional English verbal and written skills with a strong grip on grammar
• Graduated from a 4-year degree program in either English, Literature, Journalism, Education, or related fields. Graduates from other fields are encouraged to apply, but written samples will be heavily scrutinized.
• Portfolio with a minimum of three written samples (one creative piece and one research sample are encouraged)
• Experience working during PST hours is preferred but not required
• Can edit and write skillfully without the use of AI tools
  
  

Experience

• Minimum of 5–10 years of editing experience in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
• Experience providing editorial feedback, coaching, and quality review for junior editors and writers is strongly preferred.
