I. JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the workplace complies with all occupational health and safety (OHS) standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. The role involves conducting safety inspections, identifying hazards, implementing safety measures, and promoting a safe working environment for all employees.


II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Safety Compliance and Monitoring
  1. Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
  2. Ensure compliance with DOLE Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS).
  3. Monitor use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) by all staff and workers.
  4. Check and maintain safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, warning signs, and emergency tools.
B. Training and Awareness
  1. Conduct toolbox meetings and safety orientations for employees and subcontractors.
  2. Provide training on emergency response, fire safety, and first aid (if certified).
  3. Promote safety awareness through posters, reminders, and regular communication.
C. Incident Management
  1. Record and report all incidents, near-misses, and work-related injuries.
  2. Assist in investigating accidents and recommending preventive measures.
  3. Maintain incident logs and safety documentation for compliance and audit.
D. Documentation and Reporting
  1. Prepare safety reports required by the management and DOLE.
  2. Maintain updated records of safety permits, compliance certificates, and employee training attendance.
  3. Submit weekly or monthly safety status summaries to management.
E. Operational Support
  1. Coordinate with supervisors to ensure safe workflow in junkshop operations (e.g., handling heavy scrap, truck movement, hazardous materials).
  2. Assist in implementing company policies related to cleanliness, orderliness, and security.
  3. Identify and help correct unsafe machinery, tools, or practices.

III. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a DOLE-accredited Safety Officer (SO1, SO2, or higher).
  • Preferably with experience in junkshop, construction, industrial, or similar environments.
  • Knowledgeable in RA 11058, DOLE OSH Standards, and safety protocols.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, discipline, and assertiveness.
  • Ability to handle emergencies and enforce safety rules.
