Role Summary

The client is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to support and scale the accounting function within a high-growth, multi-entity healthcare organization. This manager-level role reports directly to the Financial Controller and oversees the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting fundamentals, proven people leadership experience, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, and routine accounting activities
  • Own and manage key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by the accounting team
  • Ensure financial activity is recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Directly manage and develop members of the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, deadlines, and performance expectations
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development to team members
  • Serve as a hands-on manager who can step into the details while maintaining team-level oversight
  • Oversee accounting activities across multiple legal entities and ensure accurate intercompany accounting
  • Support consolidated reporting and entity-level financial analysis
  • Assist with the preparation and review of internal and external financial reports
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests
  • Support the development and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and increase automation
  • Utilize and help optimize the company's ERP system (Sage Intacct)
  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Payroll, Legal, Revenue Cycle Management, Data and Operations teams

Preferred Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Prior healthcare industry experience
  • CPA or equivalent professional license
  • Experience with Sage Intacct
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Experience leading and managing accounting teams
  • Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting
  • Prior public accounting experience
  • Experience in a private-equity-backed or high-growth organization
