Draftsperson & Project-Quoting Support Specialist (Stone/Architectural)

The overall purpose of this role is to translate actual site measures created in the Laser Templater software, to SeCad drafting software in preparation for machine programming. The draftsperson performs a key role in uniting the gap between design, production, and installation. You'll also support our sales and production workflow by reviewing quotes, plans, and project details to ensure everything is accurate before production. By handling behind-the-scenes checks and data entry, you'll free up our Australian team to focus on sales and client service.

The main responsibilities include the translation of precise technical drawings provided by the measurer/builder that guide the fabrication process of stone products such as benchtops, alfresco BBQs, and other architectural elements.

Technical Drawing and Detailing – Generate shop drawings that include precise measurements, edge profiles, thickness, and cutouts based the details provided by the site measurer.

Understanding Site Measurements – Ensure field measurements are accurately translated into production-ready drawings. Interpret site measures/templates to as-built drawings accurately.

Team Coordination – Work closely with stonemasons, schedulers, and purchasers to provide realistic job timetables.

Quality Assurance – Double-check dimensions and edge profiles to prevent costly errors in cutting and installation.

Revision Management – Retrace and track drawing updates and revisions due to site changes, client wants, or fabrication limitations.

Additional Key Responsibilities as Project & Quoting Support Specialist

·       Quote to Order Transition

·       Enter all relevant project details into our internal systems once a quote is accepted.

·       Check for missing information (e.g., addresses, specifications, plan details) and flag gaps to the appropriate team member.

·       Order to Measure Preparation

·       Review project files and ensure all missing details are added before booking a site measure.

·       Add "areas" to the task list (e.g., confirm overhangs, cut-out details, and other specifications from plans).

·       Flag any missing or unclear details to the Australian team for clarification.

·       Production Plan Checks

·       When clients send through production plans, review them against the original quote to identify any differences or discrepancies.

·       Communicate any mismatches or potential issues to the team before work progresses.

·       Post-Site Measure Verification

·       Compare site measure plans to the approved quote.

·       Flag any inconsistencies, missing details, or potential changes that could affect production or cost.

A skilled draftsperson helps reduce errors, save materials, and improve client satisfaction. In a highly competitive industry, a draftsperson's accuracy directly affects profitability and reputation.

Skills and Attributes for Success in the Role

To be effective and successful in this role requires a blend of technical drawing skills, industry-specific knowledge, and practical work experience.

• Basic Knowledge – Understanding the types of stone, their properties, and fabrication processes is an advantage but not essential
• Proficiency in Software – Skills in AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp enable a draftsperson to easily transition to stone-based CAD software and programs.
• Adaptability – Familiarity with industry and company standards helps a draftsperson understand tolerances, stone thicknesses, and profiles.
• Accuracy and Attention to Detail – Translating site measures into fabrication drawings with precision ensures the fabrication team can deliver the correct set of pieces for installation. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies in documents and drawings.
• Collaboration and Attitude – Being easy to work with and maintaining a positive attitude fosters collaboration and contributes to project success.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills (must be clear and professional).
• Comfortable interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications — with prior experience doing this.
• Reliable internet connection and ability to work within Australian business hours (9:30 am – 6:30 pm ACST).
