  • Blueprint interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine how to best cut and assemble metal pieces.
  • Metal cutting and shaping: Use cutting torches, plasma cutters, saws, and other tools to accurately measure and cut metal materials.
  • Welding: Join metal parts together using various welding techniques, ensuring strong and durable joints.
  • Assembly: Fit and align metal components together using jigs, fixtures, and other alignment tools.
  • Finishing: Grind, sand, and finish welds and sharp edges to ensure a clean, professional appearance.
  • Quality assurance: Inspect finished products for defects and perform necessary rework to meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Collaboration: Work with other team members to troubleshoot issues and optimize fabrication processes.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Welding proficiency: Expertise in different welding methods such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes.
  • Tool operation: Proficiency with a variety of hand and power tools, cutting equipment, and measuring instruments.
  • Physical ability: Stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, and possess excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Attention to detail: A strong focus on precision and quality.
