ESTIMATOR

SHIFT: DAY / MORNING PHT

TYPE: FULL TIME; INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for building and commercial construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs. The Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and suppliers to ensure competitive and precise bids.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and Analyze Project Documents
  • Evaluate architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
  • Interpret specifications, scope of work, and project requirements.
  • Identify potential risks, missing information, and clarifications.
  • Quantity Take-Off and Cost Estimation
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs from PDF drawings, CAD files, or BIM models.
  • Prepare estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
  • Develop Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost breakdowns for commercial building projects.
  • Bid Preparation and Submission
  • Prepare tender packages, cost proposals, and supporting documents.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for price quotations.
  • Organize and summarize bid requirements, assumptions, and inclusions/exclusions.
  • Collaboration and Coordination
  • Work with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to refine estimates.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site inspections, and client clarifications.
  • Support the handover process when projects are awarded.
  • Cost Analysis and Value Engineering
  • Analyze cost drivers and propose cost-effective alternatives.
  • Update unit cost databases and pricing references.
  • Monitor market trends in materials and labor rates.
  • Reporting and Documentation
  • Present estimate reports clearly and accurately.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, drawings, and correspondence.
  • Assist in developing standard templates and formats for estimating.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
  • Experience in estimating building and commercial projects (fit-out, structural, architectural, MEP coordination is a plus).
  • Proficient in estimation software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Excel, AutoCAD).
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and digital take-off tools.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.

Work from Home Requirements (Must have before the start date)

  • Internet Connection : Min of 30 mbps wired internet connection speed AND a backup internet connection (before start date)
  • Computer/Laptop: The contractor must have a working computer with updated current programmes from home with Dual Monitors
  • Noise Canceling Headset (Plantronics)
  • Dedicated Home Office - Contractors are required to have a dedicated home office free from noise and distractions.
  • Must be comfortable working with a Monitoring Software (for payroll and timekeeping purposes only)
  • Webcam - Contractors must have a working webcam
