As a Back End Developer, you will write clean, testable code, participate in collaborative code reviews, and ensure robust testing for reliable functionality. You will contribute to technical discussions, own deliverables with full accountability, and continuously improve the codebase while supporting your team's sprint objectives.

The Qualifications We Seek

Back End Qualifications

Desirable:

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or other IT-related field

Back End Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

• Minimum of 2 years of commercial experience in a JVM language
• Strong experience with SQL databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres)
• Experience in building scalable and secure RESTful APIs
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture
• Proficiency in testing methodologies such as unit testing, integration testing, and mocking

Desirable:

• Experience with Spring frameworks (Boot, MVC, Cloud, Data, Security)
• Proficiency with database frameworks such as Hibernate and Flyway
• Experience with Kotlin
• Proficiency in using build tools such as IntelliJ IDEA, Git, Gradle, and Jenkins
• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., Elasticsearch, Redis, DynamoDB)
• Experience working with AWS
• Experience using Docker
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as JavaScript, , GraphQL, and React or AngularJS
• Experience using front-end build tools such as Webpack, Grunt, and Browserify

Front End Qualifications

Desirable:

• Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science

Front End Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

• Minimum of 2 years of commercial experience in front-end development
• Experience in building Single Page Applications using React (hooks preferred)
• Proficiency in CSS
• Familiarity with testing methodologies such as unit testing, integration testing, and mocking

Desirable:

• Experience using Material UI
• Experience with AngularJS (v1.x), LESS, and Bootstrap
• Experience with and GraphQL
• Experience using front-end build tools such as Webpack, Grunt, and Browserify
• Experience in back-end development using one or more of the following: Kotlin, Java, Spring, MySQL, Hibernate, or Elasticsearch
• Experience using Docker
• Experience working with AWS

Full Stack Qualifications

Desirable:

Full Stack Knowledge and Experience

Your Daily Tasks

Write Code

• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code to deliver new features, fix defects, and implement enhancements that align with sprint objectives
• Create and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure proper test coverage for all code changes
• Remove unused code and comments during development to keep the codebase clean
• Improve the codebase over time through small, incremental, and understandable changes

Review Code

• Perform code reviews on pull requests from other engineers
• Share knowledge and suggest improvements through code reviews
• Observe code reviews not directly assigned to learn from others
• Accept and apply constructive feedback to improve code and design skills
• Maintain a respectful, constructive, and collaborative tone in all code review comments
• Stay open and egoless when receiving feedback on submitted code

Test Functionality

• Run automated tests and verify they validate code functionality as intended
• Conduct manual testing with real data before sharing work with others
• Test code developed by peers to support squad-wide delivery goals
• Understand feature functionality and user benefit to perform comprehensive testing
• Execute appropriate smoke tests during release to ensure stability
• Report issues promptly and coordinate to prevent release delays

Provide Guidance

• Assist peers by sharing knowledge and supporting their success
• Serve as a knowledge resource for one or more areas of the system

Be Accountable

• Take ownership of technical challenges tied to sprint deliverables
• Clarify scope and expected outcomes by engaging with relevant stakeholders
• Provide complete and appropriate documentation for all deliverables, including:
• Updating Jira tickets
• Writing Confluence pages
• Updating README files

Contribute to Technical Discussions

• Share insights during technical discussions to add value
• Listen and learn actively from ongoing technical conversations

Contribute to Design Discussions

• Participate in relevant design discussions
• Offer constructive feedback based on experience and user perspective
• Collaborate with designers to develop effective, user-centered solutions
