Exciting opportunity to join AVI's Finance Team
AVI supports the implementation of the Australian Volunteers Program on behalf of the Australian Government. The Australian Volunteers Program supports skilled Australian volunteers to work alongside organisations to sustainably support capacity development of people, organisations and communities in various countries across the Pacific, Asia and Africa.
Key Objective:
The Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations and reporting at AVI. The role will be responsible for:
• Accurate and timely month- and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation and donations
• Support in the maintenance of the Fixed Assets Register, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and ensuring up-to-date records
• Assisting with annual audits through preparation of required information and timely resolution of audit queries
• Processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring correct coding to projects and budgets, and monitoring outstanding receivables and purchase orders
• Providing accurate and timely management reporting and analysis to support program managers, funders, and compliance with organisations such as DFAT, ACFID, and ACNC
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and acquittal processes as required
• Maintaining and administering finance systems (particularly NetSuite), including vendor setup, user training, and contribution to system improvements
Position Requirements:
• Tertiary qualifications in accounting and current CPA (or equivalent) status & 2-3 years + relevant experience in a similar role (desirable). Non-CPA with 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role are also welcome to apply.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use basic accounting principles
• Experience in financial management preferably in a project management or infrastructure development context
• Experience working in accounts payable and accounts receivable system with emphasis on verifying adherence to contract payment validation and authorization processes and procedures.
• Demonstrated expertise in applying financial regulations and procedures
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to meet deadlines, prioritise workloads and manage conflicting work demands
• Demonstrated competence with a range of software (intermediate to advance level in Excel) & programs including computerized accounting packages (Oracle / NetSuite – desirable)
• Demonstrated knowledge working with and within donor funded financial systems and practices (desirable).
• Experience in remotely and indirectly managing the finances of operations in foreign countries
• Cross-cultural awareness, including an ability to work with stakeholders from varied cultural backgrounds
