Job summary:

Responsible for effective and efficient maintenance of the vessels by providing technical support to the vessels in implementing the Planned Maintenance System, corrective repairs, dry-docking, class requirements, insurance requirement and controlling maintenance costs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepares docking/repair specifications and corresponding budgets in coordination with the Electrical Superintendents for management approval.

  2. Responsible for planning, supervision, and follow-up of dry-docking and repairs of all assigned vessels

  3. Responsible in sending specifications to various chosen yards in coordination with Technical Manager for quotation.

  4. Supervise all orders for supplies, such as anodes and required spare parts are placed in due time in order not to delay their repairs or prolong the docking time.

  5. Plan Class Surveys in advance with a representative from the vessels Class Society.

  6. Evaluate existing contractors and companies for cost effectiveness and performance by regularly checking the work carried out as required by the company's policy.

  7. To physically check and evaluate companies premises with the view to keep the accreditation of preferred companies at the highest possible standard and in the line with the company's policy.

  8. To seek approval from Technical Manager all major deviations from the originally approved specification to the budget.

  9. To evaluate shipyard invoices for approval by the Technical Manager and Ship Management Division, Technical Services Shipping Head.

  10. To prepare docking report after completion of docking

  11. To conduct research and development studies on parts, materials and other items to improve maintenance cost.

  12. Responsible for vessels' overall performance and maintenance through vessels' report and Class survey reports, including verification by conducting regular technical inspection on board.

a. Evaluate cost development against budgets and initiate necessary corrective actions and improvements.

b. Monitor speed performance/fuel consumption.

c. Monitor status of Class – and statutory certificates

  1. Prepares yearly action plans and corresponding budgets that includes:

a. Evaluation of repair and reconditioning of components versus purchase of new parts

b. Evaluation of suggesting improvements related to machinery, cargo handling equipment, outfitting, etc.

  1. Monitor the performance of the Safety Management System (SMS) and provide feed-back to DPA/SQT Head

  2. Support Master and Chief Engineer with maritime/technical information and advice in emergency situations.

  3. Assist in coordinating and monitoring reports and analysis of non-conformities, accidents/near accidents and hazardous occurrences including actions to avoid recurrence.

  4. Assist in reviewing and initiating improvements of safe working procedures.

  5. Member of the company's Emergency Response Team in relation to assigned vessels.

  6. Evaluate and assist in selection of vessel engineers

  7. Coordinate with Crewing Manager with regard to operational experience for recruiting purposes and preparation of training programs for ship officers and crew.

  8. Monitoring of Crew Performance Appraisal of officers and crew through the Master's evaluation reports and own visits on board.

  9. Monitoring of Crew Record of Hours of Rest.

  10. Assist in systematic.

  11. Keep updated on technical matters and development in general.

  12. Decide on matters relating to engine operations.

  13. Approve plans and specifications for dry-docking repairs and modifications of vessel structures.

  14. Recommend transfer and promotion of deck and engine personnel.
