The Mid-Level Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, optimization, and security of the organization's databases. This role ensures database availability, integrity, and performance to support critical business applications, including high-volume financial and compliance-related transactions in a fintech/EMI environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Database Administration
  • Install, configure, and maintain relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle).
  • Manage database structures, schemas, users, roles, and permissions.
  • Perform regular database upgrades, patches, and migrations.
Performance & Optimization
  • Monitor database performance and proactively identify areas for improvement.
  • Tune queries, indexes, and database parameters to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Implement capacity planning to support growth and scalability.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure data protection.
  • Implement high-availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
  • Conduct regular recovery drills and failover testing.
Security & Compliance
  • Enforce database security policies, user access controls, and encryption standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., AMLA, PCI-DSS, BSP guidelines, data privacy laws).
  • Monitor and address potential vulnerabilities through patching and security hardening.
Monitoring & Support
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging for database health and performance.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and provide timely support for production databases.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for database support as needed.
Collaboration & Documentation
  • Work closely with developers, QA, DevOps, and compliance teams to support application and reporting requirements.
  • Provide guidance on database best practices to ensure reliability and scalability.
  • Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.

Job Requirements:

  • 3–6 years of experience as a Database Administrator in a financial, fintech, or high-volume transactional environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle).
  • Hands-on experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing.
  • Proficiency in backup, recovery, and high-availability/disaster recovery solutions.

    Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems administration as it relates to database management.
  • Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict uptime and compliance requirements.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle OCP, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL/PostgreSQL certifications) are a plus.
