Senior Storage and Backup Engineer

YOUR ROLE

Technical expert on Enterprise Backup and management software (such as Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, & Data Domain) including monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the backup environments to prevent system outages, optimize performance, ensure high availability and capacity management.

Technical expert on enterprise SAN / NAS storage (such as Hitachi VSP Storage Array & HNAS, Brocade & CISCO SAN switches) including managing, administering, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement to prevent system outages, optimize performance, ensure high availability and capacity management. Models and acts in accordance with our guiding principles and core values.

Perform relevant duties in terms of all storage & backup technical day-to-day basis. Act as the primary responsible person for ensuring involvement in the problem management process. Review and implement changes and lead projects.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

For BACKUP

• Supports the Team Lead for Storage & Backup and acts as a technical expert in the Backup area.
• Pro-actively monitor, pre-empt, diagnose, troubleshoot, rectify backup job issues, and manage critical client situations related to backup & restore systems. Ensure backup integrity by performing monthly test restores.
• Administer, manage, and maintain the NetBackup appliances and tape libraries in all DCs.
• Perform NetBackup internal database maintenance quarterly. Manage and provide backup capacity dashboard and analysis.
• Tape handling and media management.
• Perform ongoing software patching/upgrade, performance tuning, resource optimization and capacity planning. Provide assessments, health checks, technical analysis, and implementation of NetBackup solutions Ensure security compliance with all hardware and software deployed as part of the CEVA backup environment
• Provide change and incident management support
• Maintain documentation of standard operating procedure of backup infrastructure, customized scripts/integrations, and maintaining accurate hardware/software inventory. Understanding of infrastructure systems and ability to collaborate with other technical staff globally and locally to resolve backup issues.
• Coordinate with vendors for hardware break fix and project activities Identify mission critical production jobs and troubleshoot end-user issues. Provide on-call 24/7 support as needed.
• Take responsibility for technical mentoring of intermediate engineers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Support all relevant open-source technologies

For STORAGE

• Supports the Team Lead for Storage & Backup and acts as a technical expert in the Storage area.
• Participates in problem management and root-cause analysis.
• Perform operational support, capacity, and performance management of the SAN and/or NAS environment that includes problem diagnostics/resolution, storage request processing, capacity, and performance planning.
• Experience in integration, and configuration of NAS and SAN storages per the requirements of production
• Participate in Business Continuity Planning and DR strategy including documenting of DR procedures, and executing DR drills
• Assist in implementation of any technology roadmap, tech refresh and other strategic initiatives.
• Participate and represent the team in the CIMG process.
• Provide as required any data when requested to ensure correct management reporting or to ensure compliance with our operational standards.
• Create and maintain all technical documentation for all operational requirements. Ensure all SoP documents are created and kept up to date.
• Implement and support infrastructure projects as directed by the Service Owner.
• Understanding of infrastructure systems and ability to collaborate with other technical staff globally and locally to resolve storage issues.
• Coordinate with vendors for hardware break fix and project activities Identify mission critical production jobs and troubleshoot end-user issues.
• Provide support and coverage by participating in the 24x7 support on-call ROTA approved for the team. This includes coverage for gaps in the ROTA due to holidays/vacation/ sickness etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred or 5 years relevant work experience is required.
• ITIL Foundation, PMO Foundation, Storage Fundamentals, Storage & Backup certifications are an advantage.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years demonstrated experience supporting SAN / NAS Storage & Backup Infra Systems
• Experience with Storage environments (FC, NFS, iSCSI, CIFS/SMB), Storage Virtualization
• Experience with Backup Software solutions (NetBackup / Commvault / Veeam)
• Hitachi VSP Storage Array & HNAS
• Cisco / Brocade fabric switches
• Veritas NetBackup Appliance (Flex / Access)
• Commvault / Veeam / Data Domain
• Storage Experience (NetApp, Hitachi Storage, HP, etc.)
• Knowledgeable in Storage systems and Backup appliance configuration, maintenance, upgrade, and performance tuning and analysis
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery
• Knowledgeable in SAN storage and Fabric Switches
• Skills with Backup Servers deployment
• Worked alongside global partners in 24x7 environment.
• Worked in Global role
• Worked in geographically dispersed team
• Excellent oral communication and customer relations skills. Ability to communicate and interact at all levels of the organisation's hierarchy.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills. Logical thinker, good analytical skills
• Able to own an issue and see it through to resolution
