Full Stack Engineering Director

Manulife IT Delivery Center is looking for a Lead or Director of Full Stack Software Engineering
.

). The position is responsible for the Software Engineering leadership, application architecture, development and support of new and existing strategic digital application platforms for Manulife Asia.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provide strong technical leadership in software engineering for Manulife's strategic digital applications, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to DevSecOps practices for automation and continuous delivery.
• Oversee user requirement gathering and analysis, translating them into software specifications. Evaluate architectural impacts and promote flexible designs that support multi-country, multi-channel, and diverse product requirements.
• Maintain platform quality through rigorous QA and code review, ensuring compliance with systems development standards and patterns.
• Troubleshoot system issues and apply change management principles to optimize IT processes and ensure operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with regional lead engineers to foster an innovative culture, promoting the reuse of digital technologies and solutions for cost efficiency using Agile, DevSecOps, and collaborative IT process automation.
• Open to travel within the Asia region to support these initiatives and ensure alignment across teams.

People Development/Leadership:

• Provide technical leadership to agile delivery squads, actively participating in cross-training and upskilling activities for software engineers.
• Facilitate onboarding, training, and mentoring of new team members, coaching engineers across the Asia region as part of Manulife's Technology Transformation.

Software Engineering Leadership:

• Ensure programming best practices and quality gates are followed, driving new technology discussions and maintaining application integrity in alignment with product roadmaps and business requirements.
• Lead by example as a committed team player, demonstrating a proven track record in Agile application development and the ability to deliver under pressure.

Required Qualifications:

General:

• Passionate about software engineering, with experience in building applications for large user bases and managing associated challenges.
• Strong understanding of design patterns and setting up engineering patterns for team-wide adoption.
• Experience in mentoring and guiding engineering teams, with a structured, logical approach to new technology adoption.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computing Science or Engineering.

Experience:

• At least 15 years in designing and developing integrated digital solutions, with extensive experience in microservices and cloud-native applications.
• Proven track record in delivering user-centric front-end applications on web and mobile platforms.
• Expertise in cloud PaaS services, particularly Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Agile DevSecOps project delivery methodologies and managing stakeholders from multiple locations.
• Solid understanding of software delivery processes and tools, emphasizing high-quality code and SRE principles.

Technical Skills:

• Expert knowledge in cloud services, ideally Azure, and OOP frameworks like Java Springboot or NodeJS.
• Proficient in API-driven development, cloud-native development using PaaS solutions, and modern front-end technologies.
• Knowledgeable in telemetry and observability tools, API gateways, messaging, data event streaming, and database interfaces.
• Familiarity with mobile application development and platforms like Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics is a plus.
