Job Role Summary/Overview

We're looking for a highly skilled Web Developer with strong Shopify and SEO expertise to help launch and grow a fast-developing home improvement and lifestyle startup specializing in marbles, tiles, lighting, and home décor. This role goes beyond coding — you will be a key player in optimizing the client's digital presence, enhancing customer experience, and driving both online and in-store traffic. Your primary mission is to develop, optimize, and maintain a Shopify-based eCommerce website that supports both online sales and in-store engagement. You'll ensure the website is technically sound, visually appealing, SEO-friendly, and integrated with local marketing strategies to help the business grow its customer base.

• Paid Hours per Week: 20
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, flexible time between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Arndell Park, NSW, AU time
• Work Arrangement: Work from home
• Contract: Independent Contractor

Side note: Since this is a permanent work-from-home position and an "Independent Contractor" arrangement, the candidates must have their own computer and internet connection. They will handle their own benefits and taxes. The professional fees are on hourly rates and the rate depends on your performance in the application process.

Responsibilities

1. Website Development & User Experience

• Build, maintain, and optimize the client's Shopify website for performance, speed, and reliability.
• Design intuitive navigation and categorize products clearly (e.g., tiles, lighting, fixtures, paints, décor).
• Implement mobile-responsive design for smooth browsing across devices.
• Set up real-time product inventory and stock updates to encourage immediate purchase or store visit.
• Develop a Click & Collect system — allowing customers to order online and pick up in-store.
• Ensure all product pages have high-quality visuals, detailed descriptions, and proper tagging.

2. SEO and Local Search Optimization

• Conduct technical SEO audits and implement best practices (meta tags, schema, page speed, etc.).
• Optimize site content with local SEO keywords (e.g., "tile store in [City/Neighborhood]").
• Set up and manage Google My Business — adding photos, map pin, business hours, and accurate info.
• Integrate website analytics (Google Analytics, Search Console) to track SEO performance.
• Create an ongoing SEO improvement plan focused on visibility and lead generation.

3. Marketing and Conversion Support

• Collaborate with marketing to create landing pages for promotions, bundles, or in-store events.
• Implement tracking pixels and UTM tags to monitor campaign effectiveness.
• Assist in developing a coupon or loyalty system that connects online and in-store customers.
• Support setup of email capture forms and newsletter integrations (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, etc.).
• Recommend content ideas (e.g., blog, DIY tips, home styling guides) to improve search ranking and engagement.

4. Social Media & Integration

• Integrate social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) into the website.
• Ensure website visitors can easily follow, share, or view content across social channels.
• Support marketing efforts with proper integration of Shopify-Facebook/Instagram Shops.

5. Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Set up dashboards to track website traffic, conversions, bounce rates, and SEO ranking.
• Provide monthly reports with actionable insights and recommendations for improvement.
• Stay updated on Shopify updates, plugins, and SEO algorithm changes to maintain competitiveness.

Preferred Experience

• 2 -3+ years of experience as a Web Developer, Shopify Developer, or SEO Specialist.
• Previous experience in retail, home improvement, or e-commerce startups is a plus.
• Understanding of local marketing and lead-generation strategies for physical stores.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in Shopify website development (custom themes, Liquid templates, APIs).
• Strong grasp of technical SEO (on-page, off-page, schema, indexing, and performance optimization).
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Shopify Liquid.
• Familiarity with Shopify apps for product management, analytics, and SEO tools.
• Experience using Google Analytics, Search Console, Tag Manager, and Meta Business Suite.
• Understanding of UX/UI design principles and mobile responsiveness.
