Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Physical Plant and Security Coordinator, the Electrician designs, installs, repairs, redesigns, and maintains electrical systems and equipment.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Inspects, identifies, isolates, troubleshoots and repairs electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.

  2. Installs electrical systems and their components (switches, circuits, electrical outlets and panels, lighting, alarms, air conditioning units etc.).

  3. Assesses needs for basic electrical appliances and their components (electric fans, air conditioning units, refrigerator, and generator) and performs necessary installation and repair.

  4. Tests electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.

  5. Monitors appropriate power voltage; maintains electrical distribution systems including electric motors and electric controls.

  6. Installs and repairs telephone lines.

  7. Plans the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations in consultation with an electrical engineer.

  8. Analyzes blue prints and drawings of electrical systems to determine efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.

  9. Ensures that fire alarms and emergency electrical systems are operational.

  10. Inspects electrical systems and their components to evaluate condition and identify necessary repairs and preventive maintenance actions

  11. Estimates cost, time and materials for electrical projects.

  12. Maintains appropriate service and repairs records

  13. Performs inventory of equipments, plumbing system parts and supplies and recommends plumbing supplies and materials necessary to complete a project.

  14. Monitors work done by outside electrical contractors and reports back to supervisor.

  15. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.

  16. Maintains appropriate service and repair records.

  17. Responds to routine and emergency calls for electrical repairs and service.

  18. Supervises regular maintenance and cleaning of all air conditioning units.

  19. Assists and serves as back up to other Physical Plant & Maintenance personnel.

  20. Serves as Fire Captain and handles maintenance of fire extinguishers and processes required paperwork for Fire Safety Certificate issuance for the purpose of securing fire safety.

  21. Performs other job-related tasks as may be requested by the Physical Plant and Security Coordinator.
