Project Overview
We are commissioning a 10-chapter non-fiction book on Palestine. We are seeking a
meticulous and experienced fact-checker to verify all factual claims, citations, and historical
assertions to the highest editorial standard. This includes full referencing and cross-checking against reliable sources and offering detailed feedback.
Each chapter will be reviewed and approved before the next is assigned. The project must be fully completed no later than 31st October 2025.
Scope of Work
- Fact-check and verify every claim (dates, names, places, quotes, statistics,
translations, events).
- Provide complete citations for all verified claims—preferably from primary sources
or trusted secondary sources (academic, legal, UN, NGO, media).
- Submit a short report per chapter outlining confirmed items, changes, flagged items
uncertainties or contradictions.
- Work in close communication with the writer and editor to clarify claims and
resolve ambiguities.
- Maintain strict accuracy, logical flow and consistency across all chapters.
- Adhere to the deadlines and complete all 10 chapters no later than the end October 2025.
Budget & Payment
- Total project fee: £200 GBP
→ Approx. ₱15,540 PHP (based on current exchange rates)
- Paid in instalments after approval of each chapter.
- Payment method by Wise.
Timeline
- Start date: Immediately after selection and onboarding.
- Chapter-by-chapter workflow: Each chapter submitted and approved before the
next.
- Deadline for completion: 31st October 2025
- Applications close: 5th October 2025
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Proven experience fact-checking books, journalism, reports or academic work.
- Subject matter familiarity, where possible, with Middle East history, Palestine,
colonial history, or geopolitics.
- Excellent research skills and citation accuracy.
- Native-level English proficiency and attention to nuance.
- Able to flag grey areas and offer alternatives where sources conflict.
- Familiarity with referencing systems (Chicago, APA, or in-line citation).
- Ability to work independently and under time pressure.
Preferred
- Degree (or higher) in history, journalism, political science, international relations, or a
related field.
- Published examples of prior fact-checking or editorial work.
- Arabic, or other regional language skills a bonus.
- Experience in indexing, referencing, and academic editorial processes.
