Position Summary:
The Practicum Coordinator oversees the practicum or internship program by ensuring smooth coordination between students, faculty, and host sites. The responsibilities include managing the internship process, ensuring students meet their academic and professional goals, and maintaining strong communication with all parties involved.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Site Identification and Organization
- Identifying appropriate practicum sites where students can gain real-world experience in their field of study.
- Establishing partnerships and agreements with potential sites to ensure a diverse range of opportunities.
- Student Support and Recommendations
- Writing and preparing recommendation letters or endorsement letters for students to present to their respective practicum institutions.
Helping students select suitable practicum sites that align with their academic and career goals.
Orientation and Preparation
- Orienting students about their responsibilities, expectations, and the roles they will play as interns.
Conducting preparatory sessions before the practicum begins to enhance students' understanding of their duties and help them refine essential skills.
Issue Reporting and Coordination
- Reporting any issues or concerns raised by students during the practicum to the Program Head for further resolution.
Keeping open lines of communication with supervisors/mentors to discuss students' progress and address any challenges.
Monitoring Progress
- Regularly checking on student progress, including unannounced site visits, to ensure students are meeting their learning objectives.
- Collecting and providing feedback from all parties (students, faculty advisors, and host supervisors) to evaluate performance and make improvements.
- Coordinating with mentors and faculty to assess and grade students based on their practicum performance and achievement of learning goals
- Attending and representing the university at industry functions, conferences, or events where partnerships with potential practicum hosts are built or maintained.
- Handling all agreements, such as memoranda of understanding (MOUs) or contracts between the university and the host institutions/agencies to formalize the practicum placements.
