Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing project costs, ensuring financial efficiency, and optimizing material procurement in construction projects. This role involves preparing cost estimates, conducting quantity take-offs, monitoring budgets, and ensuring contractual compliance. The QS Engineer works closely with project managers, contractors, and procurement teams to control expenses, mitigate risks, and maintain financial transparency while ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.

1. Quantity Surveying & Cost Estimation

• Prepare and manage project cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQs), and tender documents.

• Conduct feasibility studies and value engineering to minimize costs without compromising quality.

• Perform quantity take-offs and ensure accuracy in cost planning and forecasting.

• Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and contracts to determine cost implications.

• Assess and manage variations and change orders, ensuring cost adjustments are justified.

1. Procurement & Material Management

• Assist in procurement by evaluating supplier profiles and ensuring compliance with project needs.

• Work closely with the supply chain team to ensure timely material delivery and cost efficiency.

• Track and report material consumption to prevent shortages, delays, and overstocking.

• Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors to optimize project costs.

• Conduct market research to analyze price trends, material availability, and cost-saving opportunities.

1. Contract Administration & Risk Management

• Prepare and manage contracts, including subcontractor agreements, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.

• Monitor compliance with contract terms, including timelines, costs, and deliverables.

• Assist in dispute resolution and claims management, ensuring fair settlement of financial disputes.

• Ensure adherence to legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

• Assess and mitigate project risks related to cost and contractual obligations.

1. Financial Reporting & Cost Control

• Track project expenditures and ensure alignment with budgetary constraints.

• Conduct regular cost audits to identify financial risks and implement corrective actions.

• Prepare and submit financial reports, cost analysis, and project progress updates to management.

• Provide recommendations for cost reductions, alternative materials, or process improvements.

• Develop and maintain a cost database to streamline future project budgeting.

1. Site Coordination & Compliance

• Work closely with engineers, contractors, and site personnel to resolve cost-related issues.

• Provide guidance on cost-effective materials, construction methods, and waste reduction strategies.

• Participate in project meetings and collaborate with stakeholders to improve cost efficiency.

• Ensure timely submission of all cost-related documents and reports.

1. Quantity Surveying & Cost Estimation

• Less than 5% variance between cost estimates and actual project expenses.

• At least 95% accuracy in budget reporting and cost forecasts.

• Timely submission of all BOQs, cost estimates, and valuations as per project deadlines.

• Zero material shortages due to procurement delays.

• Less than 3% material wastage through proper planning and inventory control.

• 100% supplier compliance with contractual terms and material specifications.

1. Contract Administration & Risk Management

• Zero major contract breaches or legal disputes related to cost mismanagement.

• 100% compliance with contractual terms, ensuring smooth project execution.

• Timely resolution of financial claims, disputes, and change order assessments within agreed timelines.

1. Financial Reporting & Cost Control

• Accurate cost tracking with at least 95% compliance in budget reporting.

• At least 90% cost savings achieved through value engineering and procurement negotiations.

• 100% timely submission of all financial reports, cash flow analyses, and progress updates.

1. Site Coordination & Compliance

• 95% of project-related cost issues resolved within the agreed timeframe.

• Participation in at least 90% of site meetings and discussions.

• Zero delays in document submission due to QS-related issues.
