About the Role

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Harwell's web and mobile products, integrating agentic programming patterns to enhance internal workflows and care operations. Responsible for delivering full-stack features using React, React Native/Expo, TypeScript/Node, and PostgreSQL/Supabase, while strategically applying agentic techniques (tool-using LLMs, retrieval, orchestration) to generate measurable business value. Collaborate closely with the Head of Digital & Technology to translate business requirements into clear specifications, roadmaps, and to maintain high engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Specification Leadership

• Run discovery with business stakeholders; convert needs into PRDs/specs with clear acceptance criteria and success metrics.
• Maintain a sequenced, capacity-aware roadmap aligned to business OKRs in collaboration with the Head of Digital & Technology.

Software Development & Maintenance

• Develop and deploy features for web and mobile platforms using React, React Native, Expo, and TypeScript/Node.
• Design, implement, and manage secure backend systems on PostgreSQL/Supabase, including authentication, row-level security (RLS), storage, and serverless functions.
• Build and maintain system integrations through APIs, webhooks, and message queues, while overseeing CI/CD pipelines and release management.
• Maintain observability (logging, metrics, tracing), performance budgets, and incident response with post-mortems.

Agentic Programming Focus (Targeted)

• Design, implement and consult on composable agent workflows for well for well-scoped tasks (planner/executor, tool use, retrieval + action).
• Implement safe RAG paths where helpful (domain data ingestion, embeddings/pgvector, retrieval policies, guardrails).
• Establish lightweight LLMOps utilizing Agentic orchestration platforms: prompt/version control, safety/hallucination checks, rollback plans.
• Instrument agent tasks with success metrics (task completion rate, time saved, escalation rate) and iterate.
• Ensure strict privacy and security controls for PHI/PII and align with Record & Version No. Date approved by CEO Page: V0.1 May of 3 Harwell's security practices.

Systems Integration & Automation

• Integrate internal and external systems using Supabase APIs and custom connectors.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve workflows and reduce manual tasks.
• Assist in shaping the roadmap for technical evolution and system enhancements.

Collaboration & Support

• Engage with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Provide technical input into feature planning and design discussions.
• Work effectively in a silo when needed, with the ability to take ownership of end-to-end delivery.
• Collaborate with the digital and technology team to ensure cross-functional alignment.

Quality Assurance

• Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Conduct peer code reviews to ensure high-quality and consistent coding practices.
• Support release management processes, ensuring smooth deployments.

Continuous Improvement & AI Integration

• Leverage AI-assisted IDE tools for faster prototyping, debugging, and productivity gains.
• Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in full stack and mobile development.
• Recommend improvements to architecture, development processes, and security practices.

What We're Looking For

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years experience as a Software Engineer.
• Desire to implement AI and Agentic programming tools.
• Problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering practical business solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with APIs, system integration, or automation tools.
• Exposure to AI services and agentic tools
• Knowledge of security best practices in software development.
• Knowledge of CD/CI
