Schedule: Mid Shift / Night Shift

Job description:

We are looking for a Philippines-based CPA to lead core accounting functions for a retail business, including full-cycle general ledger management, financial reporting, inventory and retail-specific accounting, and compliance. This role requires advanced technical accounting expertise, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to recommend process and control improvements while ensuring adherence to GAAP and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger & Reconciliations

• Own end-to-end GL: journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and closing schedules.
• Prepare reconciliations for cash, AP/AR, inventory, consignment vendors, and other balance sheet accounts; investigate and resolve variances with clear documentation.

Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (BS, P&L, CF) in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage month-end and year-end close tasks, including supporting audit-ready workpapers.

Compliance & Controls

• Apply CPA-level knowledge to strengthen internal controls and ensure adherence to policies.
• Support external and internal audits; assist with tax compliance and statutory filings as needed.

Financial Analysis & Decision Support

• Perform P&L and balance sheet variance analysis; identify margin/cost drivers and trends.
• Provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability, cash flow, and efficiency.

Retail-Specific Accounting

• Oversee inventory accounting (costing, shrink analysis, reserves), store-level allocations, and treatment of freight, discounts, and markdowns.
• Partner with operations/merchandising to ensure accuracy of store and SKU-level reporting.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Contribute to annual budgets and rolling forecasts; track actuals vs. plan and explain variances.

Qualification and requirements:

Education & Certification

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
• Active Philippine CPA license (required).

Experience

• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in retail/FMCG/multi-location environments.
• Shared services/BPO finance experience is a plus.

Technical Skills

• Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks.
• Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, error-checking) and proficiency with ERPs/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
• Familiarity with tax compliance and audit preparation.

Soft Skills

• Meticulous attention to detail; strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Clear communicator; solid documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Able to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote setup.
• High integrity and discretion with financial data.

Non-negotiable skills & requirements:

• Active Philippine CPA license (required).
