Overall Job Description

The Commercial & Performance Engineer is responsible for optimizing the economic and operational performance of the power plant, in close coordination with operations and trading team. This involves analyzing plant efficiency, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement, managing fuel procurement and dispatch strategies, and ensuring compliance with market regulations and contractual obligations. The role aims to maximize profitability while maintaining high operational reliability and environmental and energy standards.

Detailed Job Description

Performance Monitoring & Analysis:

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as heat rate, auxiliary consumption, availability, reliability, and emissions.
  • Conduct detailed performance analysis of plant assets (turbines, boilers, generators, etc.) to identify deviations from design parameters and optimal operating conditions.
  • Prepare regular performance reports, including root cause analysis for underperformance and recommendations for improvement.

Commercial Optimization:

  • Develop and implement optimal plant dispatch strategies based on market prices, fuel costs, operational constraints, and contractual commitments.
  • Analyze electricity market trends, ancillary service opportunities, and regulatory changes to identify revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • Support negotiations for power purchase agreements (PPAs), fuel supply agreements (FSAs), and other commercial contracts.
  • Perform economic evaluations of capital projects, operational changes, and maintenance strategies.

Fuel Management:

  • Monitor fuel consumption and reconcile with production data.
  • Assist in the development and execution of fuel procurement strategies to ensure cost-effective and reliable supply.
  • Analyze fuel quality and its impact on plant performance and emissions.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Contribute to the development of annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts, particularly concerning revenue, fuel costs, and variable operating expenses.
  • Track actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.

Technical & Operational Support:

  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations to operations and maintenance teams for improving plant efficiency and reliability.
  • Participate in outage planning and post-outage performance reviews.
  • Evaluate new technologies and operational practices for potential implementation.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant market rules, environmental regulations, energy regulations and contractual terms.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies and market operators.

Job Qualifications

  • At least 6months to 3 years of related working experience
  • At least 6months to 3 years of progressive experience in a power generation environment, with a focus on plant performance, operations, commercial analysis, or energy markets, preferably in Coal Based TPP.
  • Proven experience in analyzing plant operational data and identifying performance improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience in economic evaluation of projects or commercial strategies within the energy sector.
  • Experience with energy management systems (EMS), SCADA systems, or other plant performance monitoring software is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and reporting in the power industry.
