PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Safety Engineer is responsible for identifying potential hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing engineering controls to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This role combines technical expertise with regulatory knowledge to design and maintain systems that prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses. Directly reporting to the Project Manager and indirectly to the Area Safety Manager and/ or QSHE Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, national, and company regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions to improve workplace safety and reduce risk exposure.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations and standards.
  • Lead investigations of incidents, near-misses, and equipment failures; recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design and operations teams to integrate safety into project planning and execution.
  • Prepare and submit technical, safety statistics reports, risk assessments, and safety documentation (i.e., DOLE/ MGB reportorials).
  • Attend scheduled legal (i.e., OSH/ MGB/ ISO, etc.), clients, project management meetings, inspections and audit.
  • Provide training and guidance on the use of safety equipment and best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in audits, emergency response planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities that maybe required from time to time.

  • QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be a Licensed Mining Engineer.
  • At least one (1) year supervisory experience in mining operation and/ or mine safety work; or
  • A duly registered and currently licensed engineer, geologist, metallurgist with at least five (5) years' experiences in mining operation and/ or mine safety work. Provided that the applicant must have undergone 40 hours of occupational safety and health training/ seminars sponsored by the Bureau and/or recognized institution.
  • Proficient and strong knowledge of safety regulations, hazard analysis techniques, and risk management.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Coaching and leadership skills.
  • Able to deliver effective results, meet tight deadlines and targets.

DELIVERABLES:

  • All statutory reporting and communication requirements (i.e., OSH/ MGB reportorial)
  • Accuracy of Monthly Reports and submitted at CHQ-QSHE on time.
  • Monthly Reports
  • Project SHE objectives, targets and programs (OTP)
  • Reportorial requirements (WASMAC)
  • Company, Client and legal requirements
  • Cost Management
  • SHE staffs development

INTER/INTRA PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Will maintain close liaison with the client safety, superior and project counterparts.
  • The position must work effectively with the member of the team.
  • The position will work harmoniously with all level of the organization.
  • Adaptability – may involve exposure to construction, quarry/ surface mining environments, machinery, and varying weather conditions.
  • Office and field-based; frequent site visits required.
  • Be a role model on safe behaviors.
