Refrigeration Technician

The Refrigeration Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing refrigeration systems used in cold storage warehouses. This role ensures that the refrigeration systems are running efficiently to maintain the required temperature levels for the safe storage of perishable goods. The technician will work to ensure minimal downtime and support the team in maintaining operational safety, equipment reliability, and compliance with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Refrigeration System Maintenance

• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and servicing on refrigeration units, compressors, and associated equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on refrigeration and cooling systems, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing components as needed.

Troubleshooting and Repairs

• Identify and diagnose issues with refrigeration equipment such as temperature fluctuations, system failures, and electrical malfunctions.
• Perform repairs and replacements of parts like compressors, evaporators, condensers, and thermostats.
• Address and resolve emergency refrigeration breakdowns to minimize product loss.

System Monitoring

• Monitor temperature logs and adjust refrigeration systems to maintain consistent temperature levels in cold storage areas.
• Operate and manage refrigeration controls, sensors, and alarms to ensure correct temperatures are maintained in all designated zones.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, health regulations, and environmental policies regarding refrigeration system operations.
• Monitor refrigerant levels and ensure systems are functioning within legal environmental and safety standards.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant codes and regulations governing refrigeration systems and cold storage facilities.

Documentation

• Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections for compliance and future reference.
• Maintain a log of any issues and repairs conducted, including parts used and services rendered.

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with warehouse management, operations, and other maintenance personnel to schedule and prioritize refrigeration tasks with minimal disruption to warehouse operations.
• Assist in inventory control of refrigeration-related parts and supplies.

Emergency Response

• Respond to refrigeration system alarms and emergencies, performing troubleshooting and repair duties in a timely and efficient manner.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support in case of refrigeration system failures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) or equivalent technical training preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with refrigeration systems, ideally in cold storage, industrial, or commercial environments.
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and cooling systems.
• Familiarity with system controls, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and refrigeration components.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Knowledge of refrigeration safety protocols and industry regulations (e.g., EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry equipment and tools weighing up to [X] pounds.
• Ability to work in refrigerated environments with temperatures as low as 23 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Additional Information

• Must be available to work overtime or on-call as needed.
• This position may require weekend or night shifts based on operational needs.
