Job Responsibilities:
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES
- Receive and assess medically related calls from patients/clients on and offshore.
- Collect logistical, medical, and collateral histories pertaining to the medical event in order to givecase direction and as part of medical due diligence.
- Provide telephone medical assessment and consultation to patients, medical teams, clients in all parts of the world including on commercial maritime vessels and offshore.
- Medically risk assess, advice and monitor the appropriateness of the treatment.
- Organize and supervise appropriate medical assistance for clients. This includes obtaining medical reports, organizing referrals, monitoring the patient's conditions, recommending appropriate means of medical transportation, and monitoring the progress of such.
- Ensure that all cases are managed with an understanding of occupational health and safety concepts including lost time injuries, days of work, restricted work duties, reporting and recording as well as classification for first aid and medical treatment cases.
- Understand the role of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centers (MRCC) in commercial maritime cases, and how to provide medical information to the MRCC when required.
- Ensure appropriate reporting of cases within the set OSHA and IADC guidelines.
- Collect medical and case information for the client as necessary to support their occupational health injury/illness recording process.
- Provide medical assessments of patients at client sites internationally using telephone or telemedicine systems as available to assess and monitor the patient.
- Safely maximize the use of non-prescription drugs and first aid treatment when medical treatment intervention is unnecessary.
- Visit/Medically assist patients / clients in hospitals when required.
- Ensure comprehensive Handovers to incoming Co-ordinating Doctors to ensure case continuity.
- Escalation as per Intl. SOS protocols to Medical Case Leads (MCL), Medical Directors (MD), Regional Medical Directors (RMD) and Corporate Assistance Department (CAD).
MEDICAL LIASON AND REPORTING
- Produce professional medical month end and case closure reports that effectively communicate information to billing, clients and other Assistance Centers.
- Professionally communicate verbally and/or in writing to relevant stakeholders regarding the progress of the patient's condition. Discuss appropriate medical management and recommendations.
- Verbally update stakeholders to ensure good communication with all parties and to promote clear understanding with patients, families, clients etc.
- Communicate in a professional, courteous manner and tone as representatives of Intl.SOS.
- Maintain high standards for detailed and accurate documentation including the consistent and contemporaneous updating of case files.
MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION
- Maintain Intl. SOS Medical Transportation Standards (MTS) and provide direction to operational teams to facilitate the logistical arrangements of medical transportations.
- Risk assesses medical and logistical aspects of evacuations/repatriations in discussion with Medical Director
- Liaise with medical departments and/or Medical teams of airlines for passenger medical clearance.
- Assist in the maintenance and upgrade of standards of the Intl.SOS equipment.
- Act asa Medical Support when required and when skillset matches.
- Recommend appropriate method of transportation, necessary medical support skills, medical equipment and support necessary for air/ground medical evacuation/repatriation.
- Assist in the management of Aircraft Charter providers and their service and safety standards.
NETWORK SERVICES AND REFERRALS
- Responsible for medical referrals so that patients are referred to appropriate levels of care.
- Understand the medical criteria and procedures for Teleconsultation.
- Provide a verbal and/or written referral letter to facilitate understanding of the medical condition.
- Partake in the further development of Intl. SOS medical and logistic capabilities, including medical provider visits/assessments and reports.
PROMOTION OF SERVICES
- To participate under the direction of the Medical Director in appropriate social and professional development activities to promote understanding of International SOS' services.
- To assist in explaining Intl. SOS' medical services to prospective/existing clients and providers.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the development and maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace.
- Undertake all mandatory OH&S training as required.
- Comply with instructions, policies, procedures or safe work practices given by Intl.SOS
- Co-operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
- Take reasonable care to ensure their own health and safety and that of others.
- To report any injury, hazard or illness as soon as possible to their supervisor.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Work within and positively represent Intl. SOS policies and procedures.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Medical Director.
- Work flexible hours including weekends and night shifts.
- To work at other locations when required by consensus agreement with the Medical Director.
- Be responsible for own Continuing Professional Education and engage in Medics Educational Sessions as part of CPD.
- Attend supervision, training, appraisal and departmental meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Full current registration to practice medicine/nursing in the Philippines.
- 5 years plus post-graduation clinical medical experience
- Current BLS/ACLS certifications
- Emergency or ICU Medical background is required
- Family and Internal Medicine considered.
- Occupational Medicine experience (desirable).
- Maritime/Aviation/Remote/Assistance Medicine experience (desirable)
Travel Requirements
- To be determined in consensus with the Medical Director for training/client/educational purposes.
- To be available in the Manila Assistance Centre for training and shifts.
