Job Summary:

The Functional Tester is responsible for ensuring that software applications meet functional requirements and perform as expected. The role involves creating, executing, and maintaining test cases based on business and system requirements, identifying defects, and collaborating with developers and analysts to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze business requirements, functional specifications, and user stories to develop detailed test cases and test scripts.
  • Execute manual and/or automated functional test cases across different test environments.
  • Identify, log, and track software defects, and perform re-testing after fixes.
  • Conduct regression testing to ensure new code changes do not impact existing functionality.
  • Validate software applications against business and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project managers to resolve issues and clarify requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain test documentation including test plans, test cases, and test results.
  • Participate in test planning, estimation, and review sessions.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide feedback to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, standards, and tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in software testing or quality assurance (entry-level acceptable for junior positions).
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and testing methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Experience in creating and executing test cases based on functional requirements.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla, Azure DevOps).
  • Basic understanding of SQL for data validation and backend testing.
  • Good analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented and methodical in testing approaches.
