TECHNICAL BUSINESS ANALYST - Payments

About the role

• The Technical Business Analyst – Payments & Systems Integrations works in close partnership with the Functional Business Analyst to convert business and functional requirements into detailed technical specifications for company's payment systems and third-party integrations. This role focuses on defining system behaviours, data transformations, interface logic, and integration points to support development teams.
• Key responsibilities include producing implementation-ready documentation such as flow diagrams, API payload definitions, system rules, and edge case handling. The Technical BA ensures alignment between business intent and technical execution by working across product, engineering, and external stakeholders. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, an understanding of distributed systems and data design, and the ability to manage complexity through clear, structured documentation.
• A strong background in programming or solid understanding of PHP, JavaScript, API development, and database structures is highly preferred to effectively bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Elicit and document technical designs and flows based on business needs, collaborating closely with the Product Manager, functional BAs and development teams.
• Gather and document detailed, developer-ready specifications for payment flows, integrations, and systems logic.
• Document interface contracts and APIs, including field-level payload specifications and error scenarios.
• Map state transitions, edge cases, and event sequencing clearly and logically for technical audiences.
• Maintain solution consistency with solution architecture vision across the business.
• Utilize AI tools to enhance documentation, edge case modelling, and specification validation.
• Create and maintain flowcharts, diagrams, and sequence visuals for integrations and system behaviours to aid technical understanding.
• Engage with engineers early to validate technical feasibility and identify potential edge cases or assumptions.
• Collaborate with the Technical Writer to produce technical documentation, specifications, and user guides for new features.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Business, or related field.
• Proven experience as a Technical Business Analyst or Systems Analyst in payments, fintech, banking, or high-volume transactional systems.
• Strong understanding of payment gateway operations and system design concepts (state models, retries, error handling, idempotency).
• Experience documenting APIs (REST, webhook, event-driven) using tools like OpenAPI,  Swagger, Postman.
• Skilled in creating clear technical diagrams and models.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical specifications and work from vague problem statements.
• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in agile delivery environments.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with payment processing platforms and integration of payment solutions.
• Experience in end-to-end payment transaction flows, including settlement, clearing, and reconciliation.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve speed and/or accuracy of documentation/specification work
• Familiarity with payments-specific challenges (e.g. reconciliation, fraud logic, gateway idiosyncrasies)
• Tools: Lucidchart, Mermaid, Confluence, Postman, Swagger, Miro
• Awareness of security and privacy practices in handling financial data (e.g. PCI-DSS)

Work Details

• Shift: Monday to Friday: 6:00am- 3:00pm or 7:00am- 4:00pm PH Time; depending on business needs
• Location: Makati | *Work from Home Until Further Notice
• Status: Full-time employment or Contractual engagement
