Role Overview:

We're seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain our data infrastructure, leveraging Microsoft technologies both on-premises and in Azure.  You will play a key role in data integration, ETL pipelines, and data warehousing, ensuring that high-quality, well-structured data is available for analytics and business insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources
  • Build and optimise data pipelines and integrations across on-prem and Azure environments.
  • Develop and manage data warehouses and data lakes, ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Work with SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS), Azure Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics to process and analyse large datasets.
  • Implement data governance, security, and quality frameworks to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and business teams to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise data workflows for performance and reliability.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 3-5 years proven experience as a Data Engineer working with Microsoft technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) and Azure data services (Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Databricks)
  • Experience with data integration, ETL development, and API-based data exchanges.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing concepts (Kimball/Inmon), and schema design.
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Lake, Power BI, and Python for data processing is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to optimise data workflows.
  • Experience working in cloud and hybrid environments with a focus on scalability and automation.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI DAX/Power Query, and AI-drive analytics.
  • Exposure to DevOps for Data (CI/CD pipelines, Git, Terraform, etc).
  • Understanding of security, compliance, and governance in data management.
  • Availability: Candidates who can start immediately are highly preferred.
