Job Summary
Ensures safe, efficient, and compassionate delivery of hemodialysis treatment by preparing and operating dialysis machines, performing pre-/intra-/post-treatment technical tasks, monitoring patients and equipment parameters, and maintaining the dialysis water treatment system and related devices. Upholds infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, accurate documentation, and equipment readiness to support nephrologists and dialysis nurses in delivering quality renal replacement therapy.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare dialysis stations (machine setup, dialyzer and line priming, alarm checks, conductivity and temperature verification, documentation).
- Perform patient intake support: verify identity, vital signs, weight, allergies, access site condition (AVF/AVG/Catheter), and report variances.
- Assist nurses during cannulation/connection and disconnection; monitor treatment parameters (BFR, UFR, TMP, BP, HR, alarms) and promptly escalate abnormalities.
- Execute post-treatment procedures: rinse-back, hemostasis assistance, final vitals/weights, and unit turnover.
- Operate and maintain hemodialysis machines and water treatment components (pre-treatment, RO, storage, distribution).
- Conduct and record routine quality checks: conductivity, pH, TCV, pressure tests, chlorine/chloramine tests (as applicable), heat/chemical disinfection logs.
- Perform first-line troubleshooting; coordinate corrective maintenance with Biomedical/Facilities and vendors; minimize downtime.
- Manage dialysate concentrates, bicarbonate mixing, disinfectants, and consumables per SOP.
- Comply with standard and transmission-based precautions; proper PPE; safe handling of sharps and biohazard waste.
- Clean and disinfect machines, chairs, and environmental surfaces between patients per IPC protocol.
- Strictly adhere to reprocessing policies and DOH regulations (otherwise single-use).
- Participate in incident reporting, drills (fire, spill, emergency code), and OSH programs.
- Complete treatment and equipment logs (paper/EHR), checklists, and maintenance records accurately and on time.
- Communicate handovers to incoming shift; coordinate with nurses, nephrologists, and admin for scheduling, supply levels, and patient concerns.
- Support inventory control: monitor par levels, request replenishment, and help with stock rotation and expiry checks.
- Participate in audits, PI projects, and monthly quality meetings; suggest process improvements.
- Provide courteous, empathetic patient interaction; respect privacy and confidentiality (Data Privacy Act).
- Assist in new staff orientation and periodic drills as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Senior High School graduate or Vocational/Technical graduate.
- Completion of recognized Dialysis Technician NC II (TESDA) or equivalent formal training/certification is preferred.
- Prior experience in a dialysis facility or biomedical/clinical equipment operation is an advantage.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs, and basic computer use (EHR/logging).
