
Coal Trading Head

Job Objectives
- Oversees development and implementation of coal trading strategy in coordination with logistics and planning to provide incremental income to GBP.
- Negotiate and implement the coal and freight procurement strategy for power plants and coal trading operations based on gathered and/or available coal data analytics.
- Develop a wide network of reliable sources of local and imported coal to augment the existing coal supply of the company's generating plants.
- Realize opportunistic transaction into stock & sell deals and/or brokered coal supply agreements.
- Ensure/aid in the development of trading associates' understanding of coal qualities/uses, supply chain, and coal trading.
Key Results Areas (KRAs)
- Attainment or exceeding of Sales Target (Coal Sales Contracts)
- Establishment/improvement of Price Build-up mechanism covering all cost line items
- Readily available inventory (Coal Supply Contracts)
- Consistent quality of coal
- Network of reliable coal suppliers and logistics
- Network of coal buyers
- Savings on fuel cost for own power plant
- Consultancy/Marketing Fee Agreements
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
1. Crafting and implementation of management approved coal trading strategy.
- Initiates the preparation of tenders and holding of biddings for the supply of coal including review of the bid terms and specification.
- Directs and supervises the assessment and evaluation of coal sources.
- Initiates direct negotiations with mine and vessel owners
- Leads in conducting continuous market study of coal price trends and prevailing market price that serves as reference in negotiation of purchase price for own power plant and trading requirement.
- Initiates the evaluation of competitive and responsive offer in coordination with FMD to achieve an acceptable and economical fuel cost.
2. Oversees the maintenance of coal supplier, coal end-user/trader, coal logistics player database.
- Maintains good rapport with existing and potential suppliers and customers by immediately addressing needs/issues and complaints.
- Formulates strategies to have an advantageous offer to buyers beyond price and quality
3. Delegation/management of Coal Trading Associates' activities
4. Aligns with FMD (Logistics & Planning Team) on inventory (coal) & delivery (freight) strategies
5. Oversees Pre/Post Sales Relations
- Perform other tasks that may be assigned by superiors
Position Requirements (Basic Qualifications)
Educational Background: Bachelor of Science graduate of any business/math/analytics/statistics-related course. Courses in engineering and/or chemistry will be an advantage
Work Experience: at least 5 years in sales, logistics, and/or networking
- Preferably with Coal User or Bulk Commodities Trading Experience
