Position Overview

The Messenger plays a critical support role within the law firm by ensuring the timely and secure delivery of legal documents, packages, and correspondence. This position supports attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff by facilitating smooth communication and document flow between courts, clients, government offices, and other legal institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Delivery: Pick up and deliver legal documents, filings, and packages to courts, clients, government agencies, and other law firms.
  • Court Filings: Handle in-person filing of documents at local, state, and federal courts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with filing deadlines and procedures.
  • Internal Support: Transport materials, supplies, and documents within the firm as requested by attorneys and staff.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain logs of deliveries, obtained signatures, and time-sensitive submissions.
  • Errand Management: Perform various errands related to office operations (bank deposits, post office runs, courier scheduling, etc.).
  • Confidentiality: Ensure strict confidentiality and secure handling of all legal documents and sensitive information.
  • Communication: Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and receptionist staff to clarify delivery instructions and confirm completion of tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Prior messenger, courier, or office services experience preferred (legal environment a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of local court locations and filing procedures (or willingness to learn).
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to handle urgent, high-pressure tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry documents, boxes, or packages as needed.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to detail.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel between the firm, courts, and client locations.
  • Regular interaction with law firm staff and external offices.
  • Occasional need to handle urgent, last-minute requests.
