Job Summary:

An Office Engineer is responsible for managing the costs, budgeting, and financial planning of construction projects. They work closely with designers and operations to set the parameters of specifications of the project to ensure it is within contract, budget and schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on detailed analysis of design drawings, specifications, and project scope.
  • Tendering and Contract Management: Prepare and review tender documents, manage the bidding process, and assist in selecting contractors and suppliers. Negotiate contracts and resolve disputes between parties.
  • Cost Control and Budget Management: Monitor project costs, track expenditures, and ensure that the project stays within the agreed budget. Advise on cost-saving measures without compromising quality.
  • Valuations and Payments: Conduct valuations of work completed on-site, certify payment requests, and manage cash flow throughout the project.
  • Procurement: Assist in selecting and procuring materials, equipment, and services. Ensure that procurement processes are efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with the project requirements.
  • Change Management: Assess the impact of design changes, site variations, and client requests on project costs. Provide accurate cost assessments for changes and update budgets as needed.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks during the project and provide strategies to mitigate them.
  • Contract Administration: Oversee the administration of contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, conditions, and timelines. Address any contractual issues or disputes that arise.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of costs, contracts, variations, and project reports. Prepare and present regular progress reports to clients and senior management.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits to assess progress, ensure quality control, and gather information for accurate cost assessments.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: at least 3 years Previous experience in related role, particularly in the construction or civil engineering industry.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to perform detailed financial analysis, budgeting, and cost estimation.
  • Knowledge of Construction Industry Standards: Familiarity with construction codes, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with clients, contractors, and team members.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to work accurately with complex financial data and construction specifications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledgeable in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)
  • Understanding of procurement methods and contract types.
  • Experience with dispute resolution and negotiation.
