Inventory Supervisor in a packaging house department is responsible for overseeing all inventory operations related to packaging materials and finished goods, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with safety standards. They manage staff, coordinate with other departments, and use inventory systems to maintain optimal stock levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inventory Control and Accuracy: Supervising regular physical inventory counts (cycle counts and full audits), reconciling discrepancies, and maintaining accurate inventory records in computerized systems.
  • Packaging Operations Oversight: Collaborating with the packaging team to ensure products are packed efficiently, safely, and according to quality standards and production schedules.
  • Material Management: Monitoring stock levels of raw materials and packaging materials, processing purchase requisitions, coordinating with suppliers for timely deliveries, and ensuring proper storage and preservation.
  • Shipping and Receiving: Overseeing the receiving of incoming materials and the preparation/scheduling of outgoing finished goods shipments, ensuring all documentation is accurate (e.g., invoices, packing lists).
  • Team Leadership and Supervision: Hiring, training, and evaluating warehouse and inventory staff, creating schedules, delegating tasks, and fostering a safe and clean working environment.
  • Process Improvement and Compliance: Developing and implementing inventory procedures and policies to optimize efficiency and reduce waste and losses. Ensuring full adherence to health, safety, and quality regulations (e.g., OSHA standards).
  • Reporting and Analysis: Preparing reports on inventory status, stock movements, and consumption trends to forecast demand and inform management decisions.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of working experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, or a related field is typically required.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with inventory control software, MS Office (especially Excel), and general computer proficiency is essential.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills are vital for managing a team and coordinating with cross-functional departments.
  • Physicality: The role may require physical strength, agility, and the ability to work in varied conditions, including lifting heavy packages.
